Changes in technology have affected the gathering and presentation of information in different types of media as social media can affect people as they can get lots of different information from it and can also broadcast their information to other people. Over the years computers have evolved as the first PC (IBM Compatible) computer was made in 1981, but the first electrical computer and the first mass produced computer was the IBM 701. Over time computers have got better and better and more people are able to use computers. The world wide web was then created in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, which gave people the power to connect with each other and find out any information they may need.This then links to social networking such as facebook. There are over 845 million people who have an account on facebook, who log in every day to find out the latest information on what their friends are doing and what is happening in the world. Facebook was first launched in february 2004. This has become more popular in the last few years as people use facebook to find out what is happening in their area, socialise with friends by talking to them on facebook chat, update status’ on what they are doing or how they are feeling and keep in touch with friends who are living away. Twitter is another social networking site which was first created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey. It enables people to send and receive text-based posts known as tweets. Twitter also has over 300 million users. This benefits people because celebs as well as non-celebs are able to keep in touch with people who they admire.
